Yomyael, Bearer of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Fly, Seventh under Satan, who commands 6,000 legions, is an ancient and powerful demon in the guise of a girl. Yomyael belongs to a trinity of demons summoned to earth to grant Peter the Great of Russia victory over his enemies. In exchange the first demon took the Tsar's sons so that his name would not live on; the second claimed his heart so that only cruelty would command his hand; the third demon, Yomyael, would have his soul. Yomyael walked the carnage of the battlefield and witnessed great poetry in the world. So it went that the demon abandoned his claim on Peter's soul, which was also his passage back to Hell, and chose to stay. For many years the demon walked the earth, wearing an ever-changing face, and in time, came even to dream as humanity dreams.
In 1913, Yomyael possessed the body of a young girl, Varvara, and eventually aligned herself with the Soviet Union, becoming director of the Russian Special Sciences Service, a paranormal research and counter-occult organisation composed largely of former GRU personnel. An extremely mercurial leader who repays insubordination with death, Varvara is a controversial figure in the organisation. Varvara's hatred of fascists is so intense that she will kill Nazi prisoners of war if given the opportunity. Her contempt for the church is great but not so murderous. She is fascinated by extraordinary phenomena and possesses a deep and sincere admiration for the beauty of esoteric beings.
